Following a staff retreat that was all about Must Win Battles, volunteering and creating impact, employees at i+solutions have put together a shipment consisting of 20 boxes filled with clothes, toys, diapers, books and sanitary articles to be donated to the Centre Isange in Bujumbura, Burundi. The Centre Isange is a centre of the sisters of the congregation Filles de notre Dame de la Miséricorde, a female religious congregation of teaching and hospitality of pontifical right, which welcomes abandoned children with different and severe mental and physical disabilities.
The transportation of this 2 pallet shipment was fully sponsored by i+solutions’ trusted logistics partner Logenix. The customs clearance was handled free of charge by our logistics partner and Africa expert Bolloré Logistics. The shipment was underway for over two months. Customs clearance in Burundi took a long time, but Bolloré’s local team persisted and finally the shipment was released last week and delivered at i+solutions’ office in Bujumbura. Thank you, Logenix and Bolloré, and well done!
Our local team in Burundi, together with two local Bolloré representatives, personally brought the boxes to the orphanage last Saturday February 20th and helped handing out the toys. Judging from the pictures, it was well received and much appreciated.
Soeur Marie Agnes Buhoro, head of the orphanage and i+ contact person, was very grateful to receive the goods. We are very honoured that the General Director of Health Services of the Burundi Ministry of Public Health and Fight against AIDS, Dr Chloé Ndayikunda, was able to join the handing over ceremony. Dr. Ndayikunda did not know the orphanage before and was very impressed to see the level of care the sisters of the congregation give to the children. As a result, she decided to support the orphanage by bringing the sisters into contact with public hospitals in the city to provide free medical treatment and medication to the children. This is of course excellent news and knowing that this is the spin off of our donation project, makes it even more worthwhile.
We would like to thank all Logenix and Bolloré staff involved, for their excellent support and willingness to sponsor the transportation and customs clearance. A special thank you goes to all i+solutions’ staff for their donations and in particular to Natasha, Hajnalka, Alice U. and Elena, for taking the initiative and handling the project from collecting the goods up until the delivery at the orphanage . Excellent work!
